Give and Take.

When Job finally saw the light he said, “The LORD giveth and the LORD taketh away. Blessed be the name of the LORD.” Each Sunday, churches say something called the Agnus Dei which begins, “Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.”

So, if the LORD giveth and taketh away, who taketh away our sins? This is a conundrum, and Christians do a poor job of explaining this. We keep perpetuating that humans do the bad things and God does the good things. But Job confessed that give and take are both alike.

If the LORD giveth AND the LORD taketh away, who’s the savior, if both the victim and victor are the same? Why ask for sin to be taken away when it seems the very same entity you’re asking to deliver you is the one who put you in this pickle in the first place.

What gives sin is what takes away sin. Thank you for the sin? Thank you for the horrible acts? Thank you for the pain? Yeah, I guess that’s how it works. If the LORD giveth and taketh away, who giveth our sins? The LORD. Wait. How can I praise God when even Job himself said, “Oh that I could find him, I would fill my mouth with complaints.”

Blessed be the name of the LORD? Sounds like Job figured it out he’s it, give and take are the same. Sounds like Job found his culprit. He couldn’t find anyone to blame nor to praise, yet he said blessed be the name of the LORD. Did he realize something I’m missing? Maybe one day we’ll all figure out there is no difference between Giver and Taker. If that’s the case, who the hell am I?
