For the longest time, my life was solely about me and my so-called needs. Frankly, that’s why I suffered so much. I couldn’t “find myself” in the things that I desired. But once I could dissociate from the objects of my desires (relationships, money, prestige, achievement), then I could see that those things never added to or enhanced who I already was. When I became curious about my life, and not the story of my life, I became more aware that I was aware. I know it seems like nothing to know that you are aware, but it’s an amazing epiphany. Developing a curiosity about the so-called nothingness of awareness, changed my life. When I became attracted to solitude, quiet, and stillness, things began to flow, with hardly any effort. I became deeply grateful for the present moment, and simple things became enjoyable. Relationships improved, my attitude got better, my habits improved, etc. Once I recognized the ease and naturalness of who I was, things began to fall into place. I finally understood the tenets of authenticity, and I have followed that curiosity for quite a while.
Your purpose is not to create a legacy or to build an impressive resume or to eventually strive for an aspirational obituary. Your purpose is to be a witness of and quietly observe that which animates you and works through you. Let go of the notion that you should have, that you could have, or that you need to. Get quiet, get still, open your heart to the wonder of the great I AM that is in all of us. This is the greatest purpose of all, and it’s the only thing that allows you to truly enjoy being a human. And being human is enough. Actually it’s much more than enough – it’s a mind-blowing miracle that’s worth celebrating.
