Vertical Hold. Contrast.

Old televisions had vertical hold and contrast knobs. Vertical hold adjusted the synchronization of scanning lines and kept the picture from moving up or down. A contrast control adjusted the difference in brightness between the darkest and lightest areas, essentially controlling how much “pop” or detail is visible; essentially, increasing contrast makes the whites appear brighter and the blacks appear darker, while decreasing contrast creates a more washed-out appearance.

Most humans are in vertical hold, living purely at the surface with sharp contrasts. Their self image has “popped” and is of utmost importance. That’s their frequency. Some of us have had the vertical hold removed, the picture descended, and the contrast is awash.

We can sense something deeper. Once you begin to plunge, you hear words of sacred writings come to life. You hear music with a hyper sonic sensitivity. The lyrics pop. The details zing. The interpretation penetrates. You see everything “illuminated.” You hear birds chirping. You see light. Everything seems alive. Fear becomes folly – you see it in people’s faces – and you want to say – It’s ALL OK!

As verticality descends, contrast decreases. Clarity has two meanings. Sharp edges – like putting on a pair of glasses, or transparency. You begin to see through. In this whitewashed transparency, abundant life is substantive. If I could take you there, I would. You may be in a vertical hold. When the contrasting surface begins to fade, you’ll fall back in love with who you really are.

Don’t hold – fall. Don’t contrast – let it blur and wash out. Go so deep that your radiance cannot be denied when you come back to the surface. The only impactful thing on earth is depth, an ineffability. That’s what an impression is – a deep, penetrative love, awash in unity and peace – no contrast in sight. Just insight is what remains.
