The ego reaches out to get. It loves attention from others, for it thinks that’s what life is about. It loves to see the scale move down when you’re trying to lose weight, and it cringes when it moves up. It loves when others make over you, telling you how much they love and appreciate you. It loves criticism and rejection. That creates victimization, drawing more attention through sympathy. The ego will do anything for attention.
It loves to see the bank account ascend, and pitches a fit when the bank account descends. It loves to see promotions, and it cries when it gets fired. It loves to see recognition and acceptance from others, high-fives, and kudos. It loves to see others looking in and saying “You’re special.”
It loves to get what it wants, and it won’t stop until it has everything. But the one thing the ego never understands is that it’s not real, and the person you are is everything already. Once the ego has had its heyday, the spirit is born. The spirit reaches in and discovers that it’s all there already. It sees all the love, safety, and wealth within. It reaches into that treasure trove and merely gives from the endless source.
The spirit is free, even if the body and mind are imprisoned. It’s free, even if the bank account nears zero. It’s free as a single person, married, or in a casual relationship on the side. The outer matters not. What matters to the spirit is the mere expression of love, something that must be released from within you. Once the ego trip is over, the spiritual trip begins, and it leads you to your finest living, unaffected by externalities. The spirit leads a life of peace, wealth, safety, and love. No one and nothing has to change. Congratulations, you have started new, ongoing trip to paradise. The ego trip has come to an end.
