Get it off my plate!

I was with someone recently who was struggling with a problem. It was a legal matter that seemed to have no end in sight. In dealing with his attorney, he said, “I just want to get this off my plate.” Sometimes, there is an item on the plate, and it’s not that you need to remove it, but to remove your meddling.

I’ve reduced my load. I’ve let my problems simmer. And you know what, I’m now more in tune with timing, when things are ready. In the past, if a problem started to brew, I’d snuff it out. When it’s seasoned, it kind of takes care of itself. I don’t stew over my problems, I just let them simmer until it’s ready to be dealt with. And you know what? Somehow it takes care of itself when it’s time to deal with it. Someone steps forward, something frees up, something comes to me, something changes, or it simply takes on less importance in my mind.

Seasoning a steak is the same as the experience of the four seasons in nature. One season seeps into another, but eventually the change is dramatic. It just takes time. I’m not talking about procrastination, putting something off. That’s the same as wanting it “off” your plate. I’m talking about allowing yourself to have a better sense of timing. Surrender to the settling feeling first. Don’t try to remove, attack, or push it away. Allow, and it will be removed for you in due season.

You’re not waiting, for that implies impatience and resistance. You’re in a constant state that allows flow. Things mature when things mature. Watch how they seem to just take care of themselves when you get out of the way, rather than trying to get them off your plate. You’re in the way, not necessarily what’s on your plate.
