What about me?

When applied to a word, “ish” makes it somewhat; in a way; not exactly. In the same vein, what do we mean when we say the word selfish? It means you are somewhat, in a way, or not exactly. You are kind of, rather than totally.

This one is hard to unpack because to be totally yourself means one is absorbed inwardly, in the love, joy, and peace that originates from within. In other words, to be totally yourself, there is no difference between one’s total being and the moment itself. There is no room for the awareness of self as an object, so you might say you are without a concept of self, or selfless.

A selfless person has become absorbed in the totality of conciseness. They do and act because they are fully aware. When we are fully aware, we act out in joy and love regardless of the circumstances. The gesture of a selfless person is from within.

If you’re self-ish; you are kind of yourself, meaning your consciousness is semi-absorbed in what others think and do towards you. Consciousness is divided in a duplicitous way and your attention is on what’s “out there,” but you are unaware of the illusion going on in you. One side of the brain is tricking the other.

When you realize nothing outside of you is of any real significance, you’ll beam brightly. Giving is a natural act, and so is love. It all originates from within. Once it’s “out there” it’s done. How it bounces back is of no significance. It’s not about others either. When you ask, “What about me?” Remember it’s not about you; it is you.
