A pep talk for the fearful.

The old testament stories have a common theme, reliance on inner strength and wisdom to get through to the “other side,” which is analogous to reunion with the deeper self. It’s understanding when you’ve strayed from the desires of your heart, separating from your deep Truth only because you were afraid. There is a difference between compliance and reluctance. Compliance lets go, reluctance fears; but only one can be real and it’s letting go. Fear is an illusion.

David had to comply with his gut feeling. “Others” told him the giant was impossible. The prodigal son had to comply with his gut feeling. His thoughts told him he’d be rejected. Jonah had to comply. He had to face the people of Nineveh – a tough crowd, at least that’s what he thought. Moses had to step into the Red Sea – it looked impossible. We’re all reluctant to face what seems impossible, but life has a way of forcing you. Not to torture, but to teach you of your Godlike nature.

When the LORD spoke in the old testament, it was a metaphor for gut feelings. You’ll face your demons, your Red Seas, your tough crowds, and your giants. You’ll face your prideful ways and your defeatist thoughts of rejection. But then you’ll be nose-to-nose with your demon. You’ll step into the darkness, but then, on the other side your father will throw a party; you’ll reach your freedom; you’ll teach and prophesy; you’ll reap your reward; and you’ll wonder why facing the impossible felt so scary.

Walk right up to the darkness and say “Let there be light.” These stories are how God would act. Whatever scares you is leading you. Most of us are reluctant to comply with our inner voice and step up. One day, you’ll realize that fear is but a veil of smoke. How fearful of fear are you?
