Be sweet! A new way to look at a spiritual practice.

Deep, spiritual truths resonate at some level with most humans. For many, myself once included, a spiritual practice was merely cursory. It’s hard to understand what spirituality is. Awakening to deeper truths is elusive, that’s because it can come in many forms – religion, meditation, near-death experiences, etc. If you’re not sure what spiritual practice is, I’ve come up with something that might help. At the heart of each human is a sweetie. Getting in touch with that part of you opens your spiritual channel.

A well-behaved pet is a sweetie. A soft, wide-eyed, effervescent, and awe-inspired human is a sweetie. Most babies, who haven’t been spoiled or adulterated, are ultra-sweeties. They only know how to give, love, surrender, and be. Under everyone’s bodysuit, the heaviness and pretense of the personality, lies a sweetie, a softy, a pushover, and a heartthrob. Spirituality brings out these natural qualities in yourself and others.

Alex Trebek spent the final few days of his life taking in the beauty of his backyard, sitting on a swing. How sweet and succulent! Is that not the picture of God? Everyone loves puppies, bunnies, kittens, and getting kisses from a toddler. That’s because you’re essentially interacting with purity, the sweetest love and most fulfilling essence on earth. There’s no funny business, no pretense in purity. It’s just fun to interact with bona fide decadence. There’s a power in it, one that few ever realize and actualize in themselves. That purity can cut through the toughest exterior and melt the ego like a Hershey bar on a hot sidewalk. Are you being a sweetie today? Your spiritual truth, your truest essence is like the center of a Tootsie Pop – soft and sweet. Lick off the hard exterior. It’s tasty too, but the Real goodness is in the middle. That’s my take on spirituality. Get to the good stuff. Is that too sweet for you?
