If you have a hard time managing your time, it’s time to fire the manager.

The notion of so-called time management is baffling to me. Truthfully, I believe time is unmanageable. You cannot “manage” the reality of the same 24-hours that everyone else has too. You cannot manage the speed of time either. What we so often refer to as time management, is simply how you perceive time, and how you feel about the ways you spend it. Instead of trying to “manage time,” manage how well you focus on a single task today. Don’t focus on the thoughts about how you spend time, focus on smaller fragments of your day, and narrow in on each thing, carefully. Within that focus, you’ll find peace and joy, and you’ll feel productive.

Rather than juggling 1000 things at once, narrow your awareness to a single task, in the present moment. At that level, there always seems to be time for everything. You’ll get into a groove, and everything will follow in perfect sync, but only if you peacefully zero in on one thing at a time. There’s no more need to “manage” time. All of the clocks on the planet are doing a fine job of that, precisely down to the nanosecond. Rather, take advantage of your ability to manage your focus, today – and dive right into your work, one present moment after another. Go through your day, peacefully engaged in each task, but one at at time. With the present moment working peacefully in the background, you’ll feel productive and free from the burdens of a mind that swirls with a desperation to “manage” the impossible.
