It’s already here. Accept it and the pursuit is over.

So many will tell you that you must know what you want in life. When you hear that, it’s easy to think something is missing, and you have to “go out” and get it. A quest for what you want in life usually implies adding something on the external level. But it never is enough.

Pursuing my desires only took me so far before I realized they took me nowhere. Where I received the most satiety is in what I didn’t seem to want. It was in disaster, heartache, surprise, fear, and hardship that I found everything worth discovering – myself. I realized there was nothing larger, and that it was all right here within me. If it were a snake it would have bitten me. In a way, it did.

Turning towards yourself will be the greatest 180 you’ll ever make. All other journeys are like Chinese food. Thirty minutes later, you’re starving again. Satiety comes in not getting what you want, but in getting at who you are.

The first part of your life is an ego trip. The second is to know yourself – not what you think will make you look good or make you feel important; but what will allow you to express true joy, peace, and playfulness. My second journey is to see what I’m capable of, and that I have nothing to fear. The second trip is a lot more fun. In challenges, I’ll find even more of myself, so I almost welcome them. (That’s hard to admit!) It’s not from the outside that we gain fullness. It’s from the inside that we find satiety. I just never accepted it. I was too busy on my trip to “improve myself.” It’s nice to just be able to stay home. Accept yourself. It’s all you’ll ever need or want in your life.
