I think the ideas of following your dreams, shooting for the stars, or even following God do a disservice for our common sense. It puts everything good “out there,” beyond reach. Even in the innocence of following your heart, the preciousness of life is in the future. You give tomorrow all of your resources. If you’re following, even God, it puts you in a position of lag. It means you’re behind, and that you’ll never quite “get there” because everything is “out there.” When will you realize you have it, you are it? You’re the leader, enjoying the fresh air from on top; but you’ve been inculcated by the common perception of “following your dreams.”
Why does tomorrow get all of the credit, fullness, joy, and love? Tomorrow gets the crown, and I want to put it on my head today! Tomorrow is the driver, and I’m tired of being in the backseat. We’re a slave to later, forever-postponing succulence! Do you really want to be starving today?
Following anything makes this moment a means; therefore, a waste. If you follow God, you’re wasting God’s resources. If you follow, then you’re the background, and you’ll never know the fullness of the foreground. You are the peak of the bow, not the slave on the ship. Following means you’re being drug. Leading means you’re free. Leading means you know that today is your greatest moment of opportunity. Leading means you know who you are, The Captain. At this moment, you are all that you can ever be, and there has never been such a time as this. No more wasting. Consume the freedom, take in the abundance, and marvel at the beauty offered now. In this moment, you are free from the enslavement of tomorrow, and unshackled from the guilt of yesterday. Absolve yourself and die to past and future. A great relief awaits you now.
