The fullness of life is within.

Too many people place stock in how they appear in the world. They are masking the inner essence that seems impervious to what “the world” thinks, says, or does. The surface you wants “a relationship.” The inner you wants only to express love to another. The surface you wants to be “a concert pianist at Carnegie Hall.” The inner you wants only to express itself with music, regardless of where, who is listening, or the resulting quality. The surface you wants to be “a best-selling author.” The inner you wants to express an enthusiastic idea in words – any old page will do. The surface you wants “one million subscribers on YouTube.” The inner you loves creating content and expressing comedy, helpfulness, entertainment, or educative tidbits, regardless of who is watching or what they say in the comments.

The inner you is free. It cares not what others think or say for it cannot be seen nor affected. It cares not if people are pleased or if you have a result to puff up your so-called appearance. The surface you will die anyway. The inner you is eternal, unchangeable, unable to be threatened, and wants to express without inhibition.

You may think you can please others, but you’re fooling yourself. A piano concert for an audience is dull, surface-oriented, and mechanical. A piano concert where the recitalist is also in the audience is where the magic is. She is enthralled in her own expressiveness; lost in the wonderment of her connection to the music; enchanted by her own ecstatic response; and enraptured by what she feels in the moment. I want to be with those who know their inner child. Appearing for others; pleasing others; or being a surface-dweller is like watching artificial intelligence mimic being human. There is no life there. The fullness of life is within.
