Wasting time on “needs.”

Monday, October 2, 2023

There are so many articles out there giving advice on what you need to be able to accomplish something; what you need to improve yourself; what you need to grow rich; or how much you need to retire comfortably. Need implies deficiency. It’s either a certain number on the scale or a certain number in the bank; or it’s something that’s missing from your possession – all making it seem that your life is a means to an end. If that’s the case, then you’ll be prone to thinking you don’t have enough, that you aren’t enough, or that you are fundamentally deficient in some way. There is no such thing as an external fix. Needs and fixes are just two-sided concepts in your mind.

How much do you need to retire? None of the dollars in a bank account contain your sense of freedom. How much weight do you need to feel good about yourself? No pounds have your self-acceptance. How much therapy do you need to feel confident? No therapist possesses your self-confidence. How many friends do you need to stop feeling lonely? There are no people who have the antidote to your loneliness. What partner do you need to feel loved? No-one has your sense of unconditional love.

One day, you’ll realize you’re the source. You’re the improver and the improved. You create the need and the solution. You are it. The cat and mouse game can be over. Fundamentally, you’re perfect. How can you improve perfect? How can you add to completeness? Once you realize there is nothing greater than yourself, all of the so-called needs vanish. You lack nothing; therefore, you can do nothing. You are everything; therefore, you have everything. Do you see how it works? You generate it all. You’re the source-creator. You lack nothing, so relax and just enjoy being a sentient being. Don’t waste another minute on your so-called needs.
