No matter what stage of life you’re in, there are always treasures to be found. In my own life, I’m going through a trough, a slower downturn. It’s a season of productivity, but no harvest. Those stages are not only necessary but wonderful! There have been times in my life that were explosive with exciting activities, and tangible results. And there are other times where everything was relatively quiet, coming to a downright standstill. I’ve had times where I was always surrounded by people, and times where I’ve been alone for long stretches. I’ve been single, and I have been coupled. But I have always been able to find some benefit to all of those shifts.
You have to see the benefits of the pendulum swinging in different stages. If you are unemployed, it’s an adventuresome time to find work. If you’re single, look forward to the time alone, or look forward to the adventure of finding a mate. All of it will do you some good. The key is to allow the circumstances to cycle through waves and troughs, but not to get stuck or try to hold on. The pendulum will swing, but see how each stage is beautiful in its own right.
At this point in my life (this writing is in May), I’m enjoying relative quiet and solitude. I don’t have many things going on, and I’m not surrounded by people all the time. I’m not full of ideas and ambition, and I am just at peace being. I can find blessing in all. And I can also look forward to the inevitable change, where the trajectory of activity will once again swing back. The point is, let the circumstances rise and fall, but always find the treasures in each stage. As you reflect on the close of this week, enjoy the key markers of your journey. It’s all good, in all stages.
