The myth of the superlative – devilish language!

Language is duplicitous. It can blind you, if you’re not careful. Let’s get the devil out of many words we use on a daily basis!

All: What is all without some? You’d have to include everything, anything, few, nothing, and infinitely more in between, and well…good luck. All really means many, unless you have really exhausted the possibility.

Always: How can all-ways be proven, unless you really know all of them? You would have to exhaust every possible way. It cannot be done. Don’t be blinded by that word, always really means frequently.

Everything (Everyone): Are you sure you can exhaust the list of every-thing? Without seeing/knowing omnisciently, how can you have certitude that you’ve exhausted the totality? (The word omniscient has some problems too!) Don’t miss the blindspot in this word – everything really means many.

Forever: Where do I start? Where do I finish? Fundamentalist Christians love this word, yet they have no clue as to its BIG blind spot. You cannot turn forever into an object that depends on space and time. Forever really means a long time, even in hell and heaven.

Certainty: 100% just as soon be 0%. If certainty were to exist as fact, then it would be in the past. No-one is certain. This word really means maybe. But really, it doesn’t mean much at all.

Understand the limits of superlative language, or follow blindly with those who think absolute is even a thing. When someone says they’re “right,” can you hear the devil giggling in the background of their blind wrongness? When fear comes over you, can you feel God laughing in your blindness to faith? To know is to be unknown. Accept the mystery. Marvel at the limitation and laugh at those who feel “certain.” What fools they are! But even a fool is a genius in disguise. You can only know better. The best, and all of the superlatives have too many devils!
