Sometimes we are too myopic in how we look at our own lives. In a manner of speaking, you can view your life through a microscope and nitpick and scrutinize, or you can back up and look at it through a telescope and marvel at how it all comes together. I think we are too narrow-minded when it comes to life. If you look at a digital photograph with the naked eye, you recognize faces and objects. But if you were a tiny flea on the computer screen, you’d see a mess of random pixels that don’t make any sense. There would be too much space to connect the dots.
Life doesn’t seem to make sense when you are a flea on a digital photograph. But there is a higher order. If an ant were on your arm, they’d think they were in the jungle. Tiny creatures on your skin have no idea of the magnitude of the entire human. Likewise, we don’t know what random dots we’re in the midst of – the higher order is too big.
On the backside of embroidery is what appears to be a big, tangled mess. But on the flip side, it creates a beautiful picture. We often see our lives on the backside of the embroidery. It looks like a mess, but behind the scenes, it’s all crafting itself for the front side, the higher perspective. If only we would back up a bit and trust that the dots are connecting even if it seems like on the backside, it’s a web of confusion. Most people are scared because they see the back side of the embroidery, but if they would just wait a while until the flip side comes into view, they’d see that the higher order was creating a tapestry of beauty all along.
