The value of experience can’t be traded with another

As much as we admire others, look up to them, or even get downright jealous, I wonder, would you trade places? Think about it. As much complaining as we tend to do about our own situations, doesn’t your life just seem like a good fit for you? I’ve pondered this quite a bit. And even though I’ve had my share of heartache, pain, suffering, and loss, I wouldn’t trade my experiences with anyone else on the planet.

When life gets challenging, it seems like “bad luck” has found you. It’s especially hard when you see others succeeding, and your life seems to be going nowhere. It’s also easy to fall into the trap of thinking that you are somehow a victim of life’s sinister, putative ways. But as you mature it all starts to make perfect sense, as if everything was meant to be the way it’s all turned out. That’s because it has been.

One of life’s most important skills is extracting meaning from experience. Everything has merit, even those things which at the time they are happening, seem utterly pointless. There is no uselessness in living. Things might be painful, but never useless. This is something you have to come to on your own, I’m afraid. One of the places to start is by asking yourself, “Who would I trade places with?” If you think someone else has it better than you, the first thing you’d realize if you could trade places, was that no one is immune to life’s challenging moments. Everyone is fighting their own battles, no matter how it looks, externally. For me, I’d not trade a single moment of my life with another individual. Everything I’ve learned and been through has been far too valuable and meaningful for me. I wouldn’t want to start over.
