It’s so wonderful to be human. On one side of humanity is the collective, on the other, the individual. One is vast and the other, tiny. People on the planet who have realized the tiny treasure of their uniqueness, have made great use of that gift. They know no-one else can express themselves exactly as they do. People try to copy, but the extraordinary know that their uniqueness cannot be copied. You have a thumbprint, known only to you, and a commonality that make you just like everyone else. There are ways of using both to change the world. Each person is a fragment of the whole, and has something the other doesn’t.
While you are part of the collective, there is something valuable in you, a tiny expression that if leveraged, can manifest great things. You can’t do it like others have. You have to do it like you. You have a way of expressing yourself that can only come from you. You’re just as unique as Michelangelo, or Einstein. But those people were also “ordinary.” The question is, do you see both?
Many blend into obscurity, never recognizing the unique thumbprint that could say something masterful; create something unseen; or to change something for the better, that otherwise looks impossible to everyone else. We are both unique and one with the other. You can’t just be unique, nor can you just be obscure. Don’t sell yourself short by hiding in the collective, nor over-inflate yourself by trying to be unique. Find your path. Use sameness to empathize and to be compassionate; and use uniqueness to make things better in the world. Value both, they are truly part of the miracle that makes you who you are.
