In all things, give thanks. If you’ve taken a moment to be grateful, remember how that space feels. Remember the energy of gratitude when things get tough. When you go through hard times, train yourself to find something for which to be grateful, and things will seem less severe. Gratitude softens the sharpness of difficulty. Gratitude is difficult to stir up, but you have to sit quietly for a moment to catch it. Start off simple if you have to. Be grateful for being alive. Be grateful that you have health. Be grateful that you woke up this morning. And then go from there. Find the small gifts, and the challenges lessen their sting. Gratitude is a practice of putting your attention on what’s valuable, and almost everything has some value, even the challenges. Practice today. Practice finding something that you value and say, “Thank you.”
