The frame of stillness, uncontaminated activities.

Nothing seems pure anymore. Activities are contaminated by thoughts, or other distractions like the phone. A simple, morning shower suddenly becomes a mental planning session for the day. A conversation gets disrupted when you’re thinking about what you’re going to say next, rather than listening. A normal, simple Monday becomes dreadful as you anticipate the upcoming weekend. At the beach, thoughts of the office intrude or your relaxation. At the office, thoughts of the beach intrude on your work. When trying to fall asleep at night, thoughts about the morning keep you awake.

We need to devote our attention to a single activity, with no impurities disrupting them. Also try not to blur one activity into the next. When finished with one thing, pause before beginning another. Frame everything with some silence and stillness. It will keep you fresh to completely finish one thing before starting another and to stay totally comported on that one activity, without disruptions of thoughts or compulsions.

Compartmentalize, and don’t try to combine things like planning your day for tomorrow and trying to fall asleep. Falling asleep and planning don’t mix well! Once you purify the action, make a frame around it. Notice its cessation, before embarking on your next venture. Try to do these important things, purify your actions, place frames around things and you’ll be more attentive, alert, calm, and less prone to mistakes. People will wonder how you can be so “together” while being so productive. You’ve got a secret!
