Contemplating your own insignificance, in a vast universe, creates a sense of respect, reverence, and appreciation for totality. If you feel isolated, it’s because you’re too focused on yourself as a fragment of the whole. It’s when other people have come to your aid, that you realize what significance is – the collective, not the individual. Feeling lonely and isolated is just a reminder to reach out, not to withdraw.
Focusing your attention on others is what helps you feel more connected in the world, especially when you start searching for areas in which to be more helpful. Reaching out to others has to come from you first. Don’t sit around waiting for anyone, take it as a sign to find ways to be more helpful.
Take time to recognize oneness, don’t just keep to yourself as an isolated fragment. You fit in, you just have to recognize the larger part of who you are. Go stargazing, bird-watching, be with people, and spend time in nature, reflecting on how you fit into the totality of it all. You have to interact with people and circumstance – no one will feel right being isolated and separated. You’re not the boss. You’re not the center. But you’re also not nothing. You’re not separate. You’re everything. We’re everything, and we have to reflect on that profound truth before we could ever think of building a better world. Reflect on how you fit into the larger picture, how you can find areas to help, and keep thinking of ways of promoting the collective over the individual. It will help you feel more connected to the larger scheme, and it will help to heal the planet of isolation and loneliness.
