It could be labor-intensive, tedious, effortful, time-consuming, or even challenging. It could take developing new knowledge, new skills, or relying on help from others. It could take 10,000 hours or more of training and practice. It could take big-time failures, criticism, and multiple do-overs. It could take countless hours of research, and it could take careful discernment, and many decades to complete. The odds and probability could be marginal. The risk could be high. The cost could be great. The sacrifices could seem like a major compromise. But seriously, “Why not?”
It could result in embarrassment and disgrace – defeat and reduction. It could amount to nothing at all. It might cause accidental harm, or even physical pain. It might require vulnerability – putting yourself “out there.” It could lead to unknown places, and it might mean making difficult choices. It might be temporarily inconvenient. It might put others out for a while. It could bring you to a cold, dark, and lonely place. It might isolate you from others. It could leave you feeling incapable, frightened, and doubtful. It could be hard. But if it were easy, everyone would be doing it. But still, “Why not?”
If it doesn’t recklessly endanger your life; if it isn’t intentionally harmful; and if it makes you face your fears, then it’s probably exactly what you need to do. It doesn’t matter how old you are, how much or how little you have, or how long it takes. It doesn’t matter how much stress or strain. It just matters whether you want it, and if you believe that you can achieve it. Don’t be fooled by the so-called risk, the effort, and the excuses. Excuses wouldn’t come up in your mind, if there weren’t something more compelling calling you towards it. I mean really, “Why not?”
