The cheerleaders and the naysayers are on the sidelines. But what about those on the playing field, the ones winning, and making a big impact in the world? They realized that vulnerability was the way to victory, not the opposition keeping them from it. If you express yourself, create something, or go after your goals, you have to realize that the prize requires you to get on the playing field, not just stay in bleachers.
When you get brave enough to make a point, there will be those who find a way to disprove you. When you get courageous enough to contribute, there will be those who will find a way to discredit your value. There’s always a soft spot on the playing field, but that’s the only way forward – through finding the courage to put yourself out there.
The naysayers and the voice in your head will tell you that you’re going to fumble, and get sacked. But the spectators can’t really get in your way. You just can’t fear all of the noise on the sidelines, and in your head, ridiculing and snickering. The so-called opponents on the field can’t get you either. Those idiots will try to tackle you, but they don’t understand that clobbering others is not the real way to win. You win by getting on the field, staying courageous and by using your intelligence to find your opening. With practice you’ll know how to really play, but you’ve got to get out there. The best strategy is to stay in good cheer, don’t get distracted by the booing, muster up the courage, find your opening, and bolt to the end zone. When you get there, you’ll realize you didn’t need to tackle a single person along the way, and the noise from the opposition was just a bunch of hot air.
