There’s never any harm in asking. No need to feel guilty for wanting something in you life. Wanting is an essential part of being human. Better health, stronger finances, and more fulfilling relationships are admirable desires, but there’s much more to unpack about desire itself. Desires that blossom and provide more sustenance seem to be those that are inextricably linked into a deeper kind of wanting – wanting to be more helpful, wanting to serve others, and wanting to have a positive impact on the world. Desires cannot just be about getting – they have to be more about giving.
Ask for things that enhance your life, there’s nothing wrong with that. Ask for things that add value in your life, but don’t forget to ask how you find opportunity to add value to others. Ask for more opportunity, so that you can serve more people with your talents; ask for more resources, so that you can grow the service quality of your business; ask for more influence, so that you can be a better, more compassionate leader, etc. – these are the key asking points to a fulfilled life, the ones tied to adding value to this world.
If you really want to be an effective person, take your desires to the next level, and think of ways of making your dreams and goals service-oriented. Ask with this intention, “How can I help to make life better on the planet, and what do I need to accomplish those goals?” If you want to make a bigger impact with your dreams and goals, you can. Tie your gifts into making the world a better place, and you can have anything that you ask for. The biggest rewards go to those who want to be helpful. Think about it.
