Your words create a rationale for your actions. When words are repeated, they begin to feel convincing. Once you’re convinced, you’re convicted. Once you’re convicted, you’re sentenced. There is a difference in the power of words and the more compelling power of your instincts. The head often says “impossible” while the gut says “go for it.”
You can talk yourself into anything, or talk yourself out of anything. Dreamers understand this truth. When dreamers share their compelling vision with others, people often look at them like they are crazy. It’s not hard to find a doubter, a complainer, or a naysayer. But it’s hard to find a real dreamer in this world. But it’s dreamers who are changing the world. Dreamers don’t look at what others say, and they certainly aren’t listening to the words of their own doubts. They may have doubts, but they don’t talk themselves out of what compels them, no matter how “insane” their ideas look to the rest of the world.
Dreamers support their instinct with affirming words. Their words support their ideas, they do not condemn or convict them. Go ahead – talk yourself into what you want. Why not? Greatness happens when you support your instincts with the right kinds of words. Affirm what compels you, don’t convince yourself of what convicts you. Get ideas and dreams on paper, translate your instincts into the right narrative, and don’t talk yourself out of what you know is true in your heart. Speak the truth of your instinct, not the compulsive lies of your doubts. Your instincts are divine, that’s why they “speak” at the gut level. Talk yourself up, boost up your instincts – kick them up a notch from your gut and into words and actions. Words are very convincing, so don’t let them convict you to a life that you really don’t want.
