Random thoughts that come from obsessive thinking are not valuable. Uncontrolled thoughts are attention-consuming and often destructive. Those kinds of thoughts are worthless. But the mind has a way of making you feel that random thoughts are somehow useful and valuable to you. But your brain is only trying to keep you safe, to keep you from taking a risk. So it tries to wrap a safe cocoon around experience by defining it, labeling it or trying to conclude that this is how it is and how it always will be. Thoughts have a way of summarizing existence. But that’s not helpful. Finding a definition, or an explanation of the way things are in your life, is not as valuable as finding a lesson or an opportunity to change.
The only time a thought is valuable is when it’s intentionally conceived to create goodness in the world, or when it’s used see the goodness in something that was once conceived as bad. It’s when you use your mind as a tool to learn and to create that thoughts have value. When the mind uses you, by generating unnecessary commentary about the way “things are,” it devalues, diminishes, and burdens your life.
Thoughts are valuable resources, only when intended to heal, to restore, and to build up yourself and others. When they beat you down, limit, or diminish others, they are worth nothing. Most of what you think today won’t be worth much tomorrow. But if you use your mind more carefully, you might come up with some good, helpful, and creative thoughts and new ways to interpret your life. Intentional thoughts will lead to better actions. Better actions will lead to desired results. Desired results will lead to something of value. Something of value will make you happy!
