Jealousy and envy are forms of competitiveness. If you feel you’re missing out because others “have it,” then you have a scarcity mindset. To reverse that perception, you have to understand that you are part of a universe for which there is no scarcity, only cooperation.
If you want to feel good about yourself, help others see the goodness in themselves, first. This mirrored effect of existence is seen in everything that we do, from loving one another to helping one another, to being a part of something larger than ourselves. The universe depends on cooperation, and part of that is yielding to what you cannot control.
Life by nature is cooperative, it’s not focused on getting to the top. Even though biological evolution seems competitive, it’s not. We as humans are already at the top of the food chain. You’re already the pinnacle of life. A better existence comes when you begin to understand that there is really no give and take in this world. There only is give. We live on the same planet; we all depend on the same sustenance that it gives; and we all breathe the same air that is supplied without bias. If there is competition, we should compete with each other to do kind things for each other. If you need a competitive challenge, then challenge yourself to be the nicest person in the room; the most attentive person to everyone you meet; and to be the one that says “yes” to happiness, no matter what. Your challenger is your negative perceptions, that’s all. You can “win” by showing yourself how cooperative you can be. You can “win” by being a champion of kindness and by showing others that we are all on the same team. Go team!
