Enrolling in the course of life isn’t optional. Life wants you to understand what a meaningful life is. Love, for example, is a tough course to pass with a good grade. To really learn love, you may have to be exposed to all kinds of tests. In order to understand what love is, you may have to be exposed to what love is not – that’s a hard test, and life lets you repeat anything you don’t quite pass. You may have to be with the wrong people a number of times before you can see that loveless relationship doesn’t work. Another example is learning forgiveness. To learn forgiveness means that you’ll have to be exposed to the aftermath of holding a grudge, the self-torture of holding onto the pain of the past. Learning forgiveness puts you through tests that aren’t pleasant – no one likes to be betrayed, but how else would you learn forgiveness unless forced to apply it? How else would you learn humility if you weren’t brought to your knees for being arrogant? The lessons of life are hard, but so meaningful once you actually get it, when you have the “ah ha” moment of understanding.
If you ask the universe to help you to become a better, more loving, trusting and forgiving person, brace yourself – you’ve just enrolled yourself in Life 101. Advanced courses get more complicated! The key is to apply what you’ve learned through experience, and you can matriculate to the next course. Life’s curriculum takes a lifetime, but it’s all designed for the real you to become known, not the conceptual “you.” Let life take its course, but don’t be afraid to enroll. Try to get ahead of the curve, the tests don’t have to be that painful if you’re receptive to what life’s courses are trying to teach you about yourself.
