The Love Response and the Fear Response.

Thursday, January 13, 2022

You will respond to everything today. You’ll respond to waking up. You’ll respond to those texts you received yesterday, to those emails you have to answer, and to the traffic you have to “deal with.” A fear response is one that says “What’s in it for me?” While a love response says, “What’s in it for others?” If you woke up cranky this morning, you say to the universe that you don’t give a damn about making it through the night. If you fight through traffic, you’ll believe that you are somehow more important than all the other people who are also trying to move ahead. The fear response always puts your needs first. The love response puts the needs of others first.

Greed is one of modernity’s most insidious problems. But it’s born out of responding to everyday life with fear. And simply, we are often unaware of our response to everything. Fear abounds in everyday life. Just look at people’s faces at the supermarket. They are afraid of being able to afford their groceries. They are fearful of getting in a long, slow line. They are fearful that they’ll be stuck in their boring jobs, forever. The look of terror on peoples’ faces in everyday life is astonishing. It’s the ego trying to protect itself. Can you be different? Try to respond with love today. Responding in love means saying “thank you.” It means finding ways of being helpful and of being courteous, no matter what. It means sending good vibes to everyone, not just trying to get it your way. Responding in love means seeing the greater good for all humanity, not just making things good for yourself. Speak with love. Act with love. Respond with love. Do with love. Love says, “How can I help?” Be a helper today.
