Don’t just target results, pinpoint your desired emotions, too.

When focusing on your future, be specific, but go a little deeper – focus on the feelings that will also be associated with what you desire. Visualize positive emotions that accompany the sensation of accomplishing your goals, landing the right job, saving the money that you need, finding true love in your life, solving the problems that you’re trying to figure out, etc. Focus on the relief, the benefits, the smiles, the laughter, and the sense of achievement. Those emotions are what you love to feel, so imagine them, when you visualize your future. Make a list of emotions that you love to feel, and match them with future goals. This adds depth to your imagined future – the depth of bliss and feeling awesome about yourself and your situations.

Train yourself to target happier feelings, when you visualize waking up tomorrow. Train yourself to imagine feeling proud and satisfied when you see yourself in the mirror. Train yourself to imagine feeling friendly, funny, helpful, positive, relaxed, and adaptable, in more future scenarios. Don’t just pay attention to the nightmares, and the scared, insecure feelings that results in the mind’s habit of crafting worse-case scenarios. That’s easy, and often automatic. Try something new. Imagine happier emotions that accompany behaviors, better situations, worth-while activities, etc. All of these things come with warm, cozy feelings. Put your imagination to better use – go deeper into what your imagination is capable of!

The imagination can “feel” whatever you want it to feel. You might not feel terrific, at this moment, but you can take time to imagine feeling terrific, in a future moment. Who knows, when tomorrow comes, the emotion just might actually be there, for real. Wouldn’t that be amazing? Practice targeting desired emotions when visualizing your tomorrows, and you’ll likely have better days and more good times. That’s what we’re all looking for anyway, why not be deliberate about it, pinpointing desired emotions with desired results.
