Discernment – decoding the heart and untangling the mind.

The skills of discernment, the ability to judge well, entails experience and lots of intuitive prowess. Developing good judgement is knowing the internal essence of who you are, beneath the surface of your story (your name, your history, your positions and careers, etc.). The candor of your spirit wants to shine through the surface of your story. Candor is the quality of being open and honest in expression, frankness; and deep inside each of us lies a truth that cannot be denied. We all have aspects of ourselves that we keep “in the closet,” and it may be time to set them free.

There is something calling to you today, but it doesn’t call you through the intellect. It calls you through the heart. The urging to do better for yourself and others; the longing for true love; the impulse to create something beautiful; the yearning to help others; the calling for better health and relationships; and the passion for being a better human being. These are but a few, important spiritual urges that want to be liberated, released through your physical form. Spiritual urging includes a desire to give, a need to forgive, an impulse to release, and a need to set things right, not to acquire, to accumulate, to keep score, to possess, or to resent.

Honoring the candor of your spiritual needs and desires is being true to yourself – that’s integrity. One who discerns well is one who knows the difference between spiritual needs and selfish desires. Untether your true needs from the false ones, all of the “shoulds” and “coulds” of the compulsive and cluttered mind. The heart can only be decoded when the mind is calm, deliberate, and cooperative. Follow the prompts of your heart. Take their intuitive lead because they know where they’re going, and they know what’s best. When you begin to decode the prompts of the heart, you’ll feel that you’re honoring and uncovering the truth of who you are! And the truth does, indeed, set you free.
