Good relationships blossom when each has an honest curiosity about the other. When you think you “know” the other, you begin making assumptions and predicting how they might react. Making others predictable creates a stale relationship, and eventually the energy and the passion die. But this presumptive familiarity is most prevalent in the relationship we have with ourselves. We think we “know” ourselves. Presumptions might include: I’m always late; I’m lazy about working out; eating healthy is hard for me; I’ll never find true love, etc. These “conclusions” keep us from moving forward in life. But your inner person is evolving, growing, changing, and discovering. There’s more to explore about yourself, no matter how old you are.
Your relationship with yourself is forever. You might as well probe it a bit further and keep working to unravel the mystery of who is looking through your very eyes. If you are an ever-evolving creature, you’ve got much more to discover, but the new frontier of your journey is inward, and it involves contemplation and discernment. Allow yourself to explore your inner desires and longings, or to try new things. Stimulate yourself, question yourself, and don’t give up on yourself. See what works and what doesn’t.
When you were a child, you had an awe and a curiosity about your body, your surroundings, and your preferences and desires. It’s exciting to keep exploring. Just because you are familiar with the “software” of who you are, doesn’t mean you’ve mastered it! Keep seeing what it’s capable of. You can assuredly recharge and rekindle the passion of learning about yourself. Don’t assume you know everything. It’s good to be curious about others, but don’t deprive yourself of that same intuitive, inner exploration. The greatest exploration expedition you’ll ever embark upon is the one of knowing yourself. Be an adventurous pioneer and get excited about what there is to discover. Who knows what you’ll find, but I know you’ll treasure inner discoveries more than anything else there is in the world!
