The reflective nature of people can help you to more fully see yourself. But very few of us actually like looking in the “mirror” that relationships hold up to us. If you see some people as a liability, it’s because you have been a liability to others. If you see others as liars, it’s because you have lied in some similar way, and so on. The ego loves to play detective. It loves to point out what it sees as “wrong” with another, but it hates when you are able to size up your own, negative self-perceptions.
Personal growth and maturity always come form what seems like challenge, but those challenges are often necessary to dissolve the ego. Any difficult person can eventually become your greatest benefit, if it helps you to see the areas of your life where you need to change, to grow, and to mature. Even the worst relationships you’ve ever had, have had the potential to teach you enormous amounts of information about yourself, so there is no loss to you, whatsoever.
Begin to see the benefit of all people in your life. Each person benefits you somehow! The universe is waiting for you to notice this. You’d be surprised at how much difference you can make in this world, when you can reflect back the benefit you see in others, rather than the liability you see in them. People will see a change in you, and will begin to model better behavior themselves, only because you have begun to see them as an asset! When you see all people as an asset (even those that hurt you), you will always treat them better, with more kindness and with more compassion. Start to reflect back the benefits that you see in others, and let them help you grow and mature. It’s the only way to become a real asset in this world.
