Well, I’m not surprised.

Examine the space of disbelief. It takes a hot second to wrap your mind around the death of a loved one, sometimes years. When my best friend died, it seemed “too tragic” to be true. It takes time to come to your senses when you get into an accident. Did this happen? Sometimes there are miracles that seem “too good” to be true. What is with that feeling when reality seems to leave you behind or to be so far ahead of you, it makes your head spin?

Think about what it takes to put one in a state of disbelief. How is surprise set up? To set up a surprise, there must be a so-called misdirection. Misdirection is a term used in the of world illusion. It refers to the magician’s ability to manipulate people’s attention, thoughts, and memory; thus, a surprise is a “set up,” all under the cover of darkness.

Your expectations are the setup. It’s always anybody’s guess, even if you say I have no expectations. You still have a baseline of some kind. It’s a setup. The future is a “wait-and-see” phenomenon. How reality is to unfold is the greatest quest of humankind. Yet it is only answerable in the present moment. The true future is now.

Think of what’s involved in a miracle – low expectations. Think of what’s involved in a disappointment – high expectations. Why not expect the unexpected? (Insert eye roll). If the unexpected is expected, surprise is not circumvented. The unexpected rules. Do you expect to not be set up? Strip the surprise out of life – who are you kidding?

The universe says “Boo.” You’re startled, you snap out of it, and you accept. It’s a setup. Can you live with it? I don’t think you have a choice.
