Over the summer, the mayor gave a press conference in my front yard. The city was voting on making watering restrictions permanent, as our area has experienced an ongoing water shortage. My yard is what’s called a zero-scape yard and requires hardly any watering at all.
While the press were waiting for the start time, the mayor and I were chatting. She’s rubbed elbows with important people, even the president of The United States. In that moment, she was just my neighbor. I realized people are people. Even though she’s a high-profile type, at the end of the day, she goes home. Everyone goes home at the end of the day, even Oprah Winfrey, Taylor Swift, and Donald Trump. We have personal lives – even the Supreme Court. The robes come off, and they go home and go to bed too.
I think if you stay off of the news, get away from the hype, and contemplate people, you’ll realize we’re all simpletons. The mind thinks that people who live in high places or in opulent mansions are doing something different than you. Nope. They’re doing what you do, but maybe in more space, I suppose.
We’re in love with hype, but we forget just how hyped up the hype is. Who cares who’s in The Oval Office? They go home at the end the day too! It’s a lot of hype. Tons of fluff, and a wee bit of drama. Let’s get real. Let’s see people as people. De-hype the hype. Bring it close to home. That’s where we’re all headed anyway.
