Eventually, we will all submit and admit that life is play. When you sleep, is it because you “need” it or enjoy it? I’d like to argue there is a blurry difference between obligation and joyful play. Sleep overcomes you, and eventually you give in to the sweet, dreamy pleasure of it. Death will be the same way – a relief, a playmate you’ve been avoiding. You’ll play with death and learn to play with life.
Let’s understand how biology toys with us. Sleep is obligatory, or so it seems. It demands that we give in, but why then is it so succulent? If it’s obligatory, don’t you think it might be considered depravity?
Play is defined as engaging in an activity for enjoyment’s sake. Is eating playful? People LOVE eating, so much so that the enjoyment has outstripped the so-called biological need. When you “need” to poop, you must submit. Doesn’t a good bowel movement feel so incredibly soothing, pleasurable? You submit to the play, but it seems like a lot of “work” to stop what you’re doing and let it go. Obliging or playing – I can’t tell.
When it comes right down to it, what’s the difference between work, obligation, so-called choice, and play. Some people even find it pleasurable, or playful to suffer. Complaining is complying or co-mingling with the “need” or shear pleasure of identity building. You’re toying with pain and pleasure, commingling them into a playful dance of attention-getting – so yummy!
Sleep will overcome you. Hunger will overcome you. Libido overcomes you. Submit to the pleasure. You’re obligated to, aren’t you? Admit it – sit too long, and you’ll enjoy venting about your aching joints. Move too much, and you’ll enjoy the extra calories you get to eat. Life is enjoying. You know you want to, even though it seems obligatory. Might as well submit and enjoy.
Happy Birthday LK. Love you like there’s no tomorrow!
