“God is the most important thing in my life,” says the believer. What a nice sentiment, but I wonder, if you were drowning, wouldn’t air be the most important “thing” in your life? Is air God? If you were in financial despair, wouldn’t a dollar be the most important thing in your life? Is money God? Show me the most important thing in your life, and I’ll show you God, a mere noun.
For those who believe, you’ve got some ‘splaining to do. For those who disbelieve, you’ve got some ‘splaining to do! For those who know, be still.
The first thing I’d ask an alien is, “Take me to your leader.” It’s easy to know one’s leader without asking. If you listen and observe, the leader comes through, usually some form of fear.
I was in the waiting room at the doctor the other day, and money was the leader of the three “wise men” conversing. Everything was about how expensive this or that was. Cost was God. Or getting a good deal on this or that was God.
In a crisis, a famine, or flood will you beg to go to church? Unless the church building is built like a vault, is stocked with food, and they have running water and beds, I doubt it. If they did, then you will have found your savior.
If the church is on fire will you go in, “looking” for God? Or would you let your legs run away from a burning building? Take me to your leader, and I’ll show you the most important “thing.”
You won’t be taken by anything but surprise, and there will be no more words, nor anymore pain or sighing, for the holy grail of awe and silence will overcome you, and your saving health will be before all things.
