When we do things that we love or that we want to, we may feel that we\u2019ve got some explaining to do. Accreditation is explaining to the accrediting \u201cBig Brother\u201d agency that what you are doing is legit. You\u2019re trying to explain that you\u2019re not a shyster to a group of shysters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Poor Lucy on \u201cI Love Lucy,\u201d always had some \u2018splaining to do. Ricky was always catching her in some twisted up mess. I\u2019m not sure Lucy really knew how she ended up in such a fix. She just didn\u2019t know any better. She was being Lucy – innocent. The stories she made up never made up for the fact that she was a mess. We\u2019re all a mess and no <\/em>explanation accounts for it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The story you make up about why you do this or that is just a made-up justification. We justify our actions with a flimsy story. If you want to sit on the couch all day, so what? Do you have some \u2018splaining to do? If you want to love someone of your own gender, do you owe anyone an explanation? Do you have to accredit yourself in order to do what you want? Do you have to make up for your laziness? Do you have to account for being vegan or a republican or a Buddhist? Who do you owe the honor of a confession?<\/p>\n\n\n\n No one knows how they end up where they are. The made-up story is a way of making up the debt you owe to \u201csociety.\u201d Existence is innocent, friends. St. Augustine says, \u201cLove God and do as you will.\u201d I can\u2019t help you with the \u201clove God\u201d part. Do as you will is self explanatory. Who is demanding an explanation? Ricky wouldn\u2019t understand. Besides, he\u2019s dead, and the point is moot.
