Everybody is obsessed with wanting to be “in the know.\u201d Why isn\u2019t anyone interested in being in \u201cthe not know?\u201d The crowd is going to go where they can see with their eyes, where it seems they have it all figured out, and then they\u2019re miserable. The nonconformist goes elsewhere – to where the crowd is afraid to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Follow your nose, your eyes, your taste buds, and even your dreams, and you are smelling and seeing what\u2019s already there. Follow the crowd, and see the droves of people who are \u201cin the know.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What about going away<\/em> from the crowd? Drop the Ikea instructions. No tools. No lamp. No sun. No sight. What would that \u201clook\u201d like? To me, it\u2019s heavenly insight. We can stop pretending to be busybodies, “assembling” our lives from a blueprint. They are already done. All I have to do is follow \u201cthe plan\u201d – the one that has no words on it. No pictures. No models. That one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.\u201d (Isaiah 29:11) Who is this I that speaks if not myself? What are those plans, if not ones I can\u2019t see? If I, as the individual, knew the plans – they\u2019d no longer be exciting. If I, as the individual, knew the route – I\u2019d lose my zest to keep going. Being \u201cin the know\u201d is what makes for dull living.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Root moves in dark mystery, one scene at a time. What\u2019s next? Who knows? Life rewards action before the route ever takes shape. The route takes shape in hindsight. The Root takes shape in foresight. The human takes shape in insight. Being \u201cin the know\u201d is looking backwards.
