If only I could just get rid of it and make it go away. I wish that I could eradicate what bothers you. I’d buy some roach spray, and I’d get rid of all of the pests. I’d extricate the annoyances and the slow drivers. I’d eliminate things that get under your skin. I’d get rid of that awful feeling of being stuck. I’d pull away all of those moments of loneliness, and I’d make everything better for you.

The world is full of remedies only because the world is full of helpless people. We’ve got shelves full of products, books, workshops, and services to make your problems vanish. Yet nothing seems to be working! I wonder why we can’t seem to get rid of the shame of having those extra pounds, or the annoyances of those damn wrinkles.

I wish I could get rid of people who make you feel inferior! Those are the worst. Perhaps there is a repellent of some kind? That’s what we need – more products, more services, more ways to help. Or what about people who lie and hurt your feelings. Surely there is a way to get them to stop hurting you and to finally tell the truth!

If only I could just get rid of it. If only I could eradicate your problems and clear away your worries and annoyances. If only I could get at the root cause. If I could get rid of all those problems, I’d have to get rid of the source of them. I’d have to get rid of you. Now, is that what you want?

Perhaps there is a better way. The self-help industry, what a sham! The self doesn’t need help. There is no self.
